KofC 9184 - Thanksgiving Meals

Our Council has a long standing tradition where we purchase -and- deliver Thanksgiving meals to targeted groups of individuals in need.  Each year, Knights and family members volunteer to deliver those meals on Thanksgiving day and we would like a list of those who will take time on Thanksgiving morning to continue our tradition.  It requires, at the most, 2 hours of your time to meet at Bi-Lo, pick up the Thanksgiving meals and deliver them to the recipients.  Please confirm that you can volunteer for this charitable event, by REPLYING to this email or contacting Bob Tonon, PGK at 234-7833.

Meet at the Bi-Lo on Pelham Road near I-85 at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.

If you know of someone -or- a group of individuals that we should consider for a Thanksgiving meal, you need to communicate that information by this Friday, Nov. 11.  You may respond to this email -or- contact Bob Tonon at 234-7833.

So many of you have made generous donations towards this charitable event and your contributions have been truly appreciated.  The hope is that you will support our effort for another year.  Any contribution that you could afford will be gladly accepted and appreciated.  Your contribution can be made to "Knights of Columbus-9184".

You are welcome to contact our Grand Knight, Louis Beck at 268-4796 for any additional details related to your contribution.

Vivat Jesus !

Parish Picnic - This Sunday... 'could still use some help !

20th Anniversary Council Party - Oct. 22nd (Sat. night) at Prince of Peace

Parish Picnic

We need help on set-up as early as 9 a.m. Sunday morning. Set-up will include designating parking, taping off the various areas (i.e. Games, food area, stage, etc.) helping with game set-up, and of course helping start food prep and set-up drink stands.

Also, we will need help at the conclusion of the picnic (clean-up)

A Request from the Parish Picnic Committee:

- Can anyone bring a "Tail-Gate" Awning/Tent to the Parish Picnic this week end to serve as a "sun shield" for attendees and ministry groups ?

The PPC would really appreciate it !

Brother Knights and Family members,

A WHOLE LOT of THANKS to everyone who contributed their time and donations towards the Gulf Coast Relief Fund - Prince of Peace parishioners included !

With the proceeds from a recent Wednesday night Parish dinner,  our most recent Sunday Breakfast Buffet, and other substantial donations, we have forwarded an amount of $1,358 to KofC Supreme who will in turn match that total donated amount.

Take time to visit Supreme's web-site (www.KofC.org) to learn how our Fraternal order has quickly responded to the needs of those in the Gulf Coast region.  It's a clear example of CHARITY -and- UNITY.

REMINDER:  We will be working on the Ranch Clean-Up project this coming Saturday, September 24th, starting at 7:30 a.m.  We hope to work hard and clear as much area around the Ranch and along the sides of the Ranch for the outdoor classroom project as well as the upcoming POP Parish Picnic.  Please bring any tools that may be useful such as rakes, shovels, hoe's, axes, pruning saws, etc.  Ron Rossi will have a chain-saw, industrial blower and lawnmower.  A few other lawnmowers would be useful to clear some of the higher grass areas.  --This clean-up is long overdue and is step one in creating an outdoor classroom for the POP Catholic School.  This outdoor classroom will only continue to strengthen the ties between Council 9184 and our school and our Church.  We can not emphasis enough, the importance of this project for our council, the upcoming picnic on October 2nd, and ultimately the school which will benefit parish kids.

Please contact Ron Rossi, Jr. at 244-4692 to let him know that you can help.

Brother Knights and Family members,

Please include in your daily prayers Leah Shultz who is the cousin of our Deputy Grand Knight, Greg Pirochta.

Be confident that through our collective prayers, Leah WILL overcome -AND- recover from Hodgkin's disease.  Greg and Heike Pirochta thank everyone in advance for your prayers.

Brother Knights and Family Members,

The Annual Prince of Peace Parish Picnic is just around the corner (Oct 2nd) and we need a "Slice of Time" from everyone in our Council family to make this a successful event.

We're FINALLY back on the Parish campus for this fun-filled event !

A LOT of Knights and Parishioners have invested a LARGE AMOUNT of their time planning and advertising for this event - we have definitely seen the evidence of their advertising efforts!

Now, the planners need OUR help. IT'S REALLY SIMPLE...

a.. Agree to help before/after the week end Mass to SELL tickets,
and...

b.. Help with Registration on the day of the event - Oct 2.

Tickets for the Picnic will be sold before -and- after Mass on the weeks leading up to the Picnic - starting the week end of Sept 17.

The cost is $5 per person, $10 per couple, or $15 per family.

Please take the time to send an email offering your assistance to: KofC9184@bellsouth.net or by contacting Jake Ohlinger at 244-0051.

Brother Knights & Family members,

I am enclosing a petition (email included below) for your prayers on the behalf of our Brother Knight, Bart Huffman, that is related to the senseless crime which recently resulted in the loss of his Aunt's life.  Please keep Bart, Laurie and their family members in your daily prayers.

<From Bart Huffman>

Brother Knights,

It is with a heavy heart that I come to you asking that you include my family
in your prayers. My Aunt, Shirley Wiles, 67, of Elloree, SC was the victim
of a violent crime Wednesday morning around 10:30am. During an apparent
robbery, she was fatally shot along with the store owner while buying some
cosmetics. There are no suspects at this time, but the police are looking
for some persons that were seen near the scene for questioning.

You may have seen the small snippet of an article in today's Greenville News-Section B, Page 2.

Those interested my read more at the local news paper's website, www.thetandd.com

Thanks and
Vivat Jesus !

Congratulations to Paul Hovey who advanced to the Second Degree of our order this afternoon at an exemplification ceremony held at St. Mary Magdaline Catholic Church.

By now, everyone should have received -and- READ a mailed copy of the Council's newsletter that was sent by the Grand Knight, Louis Beck.  In that newsletter, you should have found dates for upcoming Council events.  Now is the time to pick the events that you will be able to help with.  Included in the newsletter was an easy-to-understand sign-up sheet.  Please take a few minutes to complete the form and get it back to Louis as soon as possible.

WCKI Catholic Radio has asked the Knights of Columbus to assist with touch-up painting on wood work around the station.  They would like to have the job completed in the next 2-3 weeks and the work could be done during any part of the week day / week end.  'Any retirees out there that could afford several hours for the benefit of own local Catholic radio station ?
If so, please REPLY to this notice -or- contact Ray Hock, SD at 244-8828.

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend our Council's monthly Business meeting this Thursday night, August 11th - 7:00pm, in the Council's home - "the Ranch".

As we start the new Fraternal year, we are beginning to jump-start new Council programs -and- continue many of our past programs; but, we need the participation of more members of our Council in order to celebrate another successful year.  You can make the difference towards that goal.
